Titanium dioxide pigment particles are dispersed in an aqueous medium. A selected, relatively hard polymeric latex, is added, as well as a film-forming binder to give a formulated coating composition. The selected polymeric latex can include residues of polymerized dihydrogen phosphate functional groups, or have a high level of acid functional groups or greater than one percent itaconic acid. The selected latex particles improve the opacity of the coating film. Alternatively, a single selected polymeric latex is used to both improve opacity and to serve as binder or a, mixture of a selected polymeric latex having a low effective glass transition temperature and a conventional binder latex …

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 19, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 19, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 19, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
