Abstract From the Canadian patent

A solid-state AC energy consumption meter includes an array of AC signal transducers which provide voltage and current signals to a watt transducer chip. The watt transducer chip operates on the multi-phase voltage and current signals to produce AC energy consumption data which is fed to a register for visual display. In one aspect of the invention, a calibrating resistive component is placed in series with the input to the primary coil of the potential transformer for each phase. The value of the resistive component is calibrated to produce an appropriate change in the phase angle difference between the potential transformer secondary voltage and current transformer secondary current. Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 19, 1992 and granted August 18, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 19, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 19, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
