Abstract From the Canadian patent

A tuned port rigid baffle panel (1) which mounts to a drum opposite the beater drumhead membrane (23). The baffle panel (1) has a port (3) having an area specifically selected to tune the drum to a selected frequency. The tuned port (3) controls the radiation of sound waves (25) from the drum so that they emerge from the drum in phase with and additively with the sound waves (24) from the front of beater membrane (23) to control resonance and extend the low frequency response of the drum. Clips (10) mount the baffle panel (1) to the drum using the standard drum hardware.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 16, 1991 and granted October 7, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 16, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 16, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
