Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method for preparing chitosan comprises the steps of adding an aqueous organic acid solution having a concentration ranging from 0.5 to 10 % (w/v) to alkaliinsoluble substances obtained by treating cultured filamentous fungi with a hot aqueous alkali solution and stirring and mixing the dispersion while heating it at a temperature ranging from 50 to 100 °C to extract chitosan. The method for preparing chitosan makes it possible to provide chitosan in a high productivity. Chitosan is an important biomass and may be used in various fields such as a flocculating agent for polymers, an immobilization support and porous beads.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 13, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 13, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 13, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
