Abstract From the Canadian patent

A television system includes a picture tube beam current limiting arrangement which operates to reduce image contrast without affecting image brightness when the beam current exceeds a first threshold. However, if the user brightness control setting exceed the nominal (midrange) brightness control level the image, brightness is reduced when the beam current exceeds a second threshold which may be equal to or greater than the first. Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 5, 1992 and granted August 3, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 5, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 5, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
