Abstract From the Canadian patent

There is provided a combination, unitary membrane and electrode assembly with a solid polymer electrolyte membrane, and first and second electrodes at least partially embedded in opposed surfaces of the membrane. The method leads to a very significant increase in catalyst utilization. The electrodes each comprise a respective group of finely divided carbon particles, very finely divided catalytic particles supported on internal and external surfaces of the carbon particles and a proton conductive material intermingled with the catalytic and carbon particles. A first group of finely divided carbon particles forming the first electrode has greater water attraction and water retention …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 21, 1992 and granted February 18, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 21, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 21, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
