A simplified open loop focus control system for a fixed focus lens camera that positions a supplemental lens into the optical path of a fixed focus lens, for relatively remote subjects in response to a signal, representative of subject reflectivity. Inserting such a lens in this manner substantially reduces focus control system complexity while at the same time minimizing the frequency of supplemental lens movement for most exposures which are typically of subjects that are relatively close to the fixed focus lens camera.

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 7, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 7, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 7, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
