The preparation of an uncrosslinked polysilazane containing chemically bound peroxide groups by reacting a polysilazane and a hydroperoxide at a temperature below the decomposition temperature of the hydroperoxide is disclosed. A thermoset polymer is formed by heating a peroxidesubstituted silazane that is also substituted by alkenyl groups or alkynyl groups. The chemically bound peroxide decomposes to yield a free radical, thereby initiating crosslinking of the unsaturated groups. The peroxidesubstituted polysilazanes can be pyrolyzed to form ceramic articles.

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 6, 1992 and granted December 9, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 6, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 6, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
