Abstract From the Canadian patent

The liquid is enclosed in a resiliently deformable container (1) the neck of which has a microfiltering membrane (9) which is permeable to the liquid but impermeable to air when wet. Since the container resiliently recovers its shape after it is deformed the liquid remaining in contact with the outside of the membrane after use is sucked back in and the membrane is kept moist until the next time the container is used.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 10, 1991 and granted May 15, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 10, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 10, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
