Abstract From the Canadian patent

A frequency stabilized optical signal source is provided. A laser produces an optical carrier at a wavelength ~. Feedback is provided to adjust the wavelength ~. In order to provide the feedback a, portion of the optical carrier is modulated by a periodic reference signal. An optical fiber with an in-fiber resonator is coupled to receive the modulated optical carrier. The resonator effects a phase and/or amplitude change between the modulated optical carrier and a sideband thereof at a resonant frequency of the resonator. The phase or amplitude change is detected and used to adjust the laser wavelength. In a preferred embodiment, a moire grating having a single resonant frequency is used as …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 5, 1992 and granted December 18, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 5, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 5, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
