Abstract From the Canadian patent

This system for two-way transmission, specifically through optical fibre between a terminal called the source terminal and a terminal called the user terminal with a single carrier wave for both transmission directions emitted by a source located in the source terminal comprises, for each direction of transmission means of modulating one of the parameters of said carrier wave this parameter being different for both these directions with an exception in the case of intensity where it may be the same and with in all cases the condition that if the modulation first applied i.e. for the transmission from the source terminal to the user terminal is an intensity modulation, it is applied with a …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 2, 1992 and granted May 12, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 2, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 2, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
