A cable coupling transformer comprises a metal or ferrite former defining separate high permeability portions of a pair of flux paths, a winding electromagnetically associated with each high permeability portion, and a common low permeability portion of each flux path which passes between a pair of conductors carrying equal currents in antiphase. A portion of the current induced in either the conductors or the windings are impressed on the other to create a simple communications device.

Why it's free to use
- Filed March 27, 1991 and granted February 12, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 27, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 27, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
