The chain drive described in the present disclosure instead of using a single, sprocket wheel saves space by making use of two or more sprocket wheels coupled together by slip-free means, each sprocket wheel having only a small number of low sprockets. The number of sprocket wheels the centre-to-centre, distance between the sprocket wheels the tip diameter of the sprocket wheels and, the phase offset of the sprockets as between the sprocket wheels which form a set, of such wheels are all so matched that one sprocket of one sprocket wheel always, engages in the chain in rhythmical sequence so that all the sprocket wheels , rotate smoothly when the chain moves evenly.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 18, 1992 and granted June 24, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 18, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 18, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
