Abstract From the Canadian patent

A DNA sequence of a high biotin operon-expression system usable for breeding a bacterium having excellent biotin productivity is provided. The invention relates to a DNA sequence of the biotin operon characterized by having at least one base pair of either a nucleotide sequence of the regulatory region of the biotin operon of Escherichia coli or a nucleotide sequence in the vicinity of the bioB initiating codon which is mutated in comparison with the wild type strain. Escherichia coli transformed with a recombinant plasmid carrying such a DNA sequence has high biotin productivity.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 11, 1992 and granted May 20, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 11, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 11, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
