The present invention provides a method of decomposing and removing halogenated substances contained in gas by contacting waste gas containing around 10 to 10,000 ppm of halogen-containing organic compounds such as carbon tetrachloride with acid zeolite or acid zeolite ion-exchanged with metals belonging to the second through the sixth period in the periodic table or carrying these metals. The method allows to decompose and remove the organic halogenated substances even at relatively low temperature of 100 to 400 °C and the organic halogenated substances containing no hydrogen can also be treated by this method.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 27, 1991 and granted June 5, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 27, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 27, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
