A TDMA RF received signal is demodulated by first being filtered with a fixed transversal filter having a characteristic selected for matching a fixed square root raised cosine pulse characteristic of the received signal. The filtered signal is then adaptively filtered for compensating for a time varying impulse response of the channel. The adaptive filtering is performed initially during a synchronizing portion (preamble) of the filtered signal in accordance with a fast recursive least squares algorithm. Subsequent filter adaptation to a data portion of the filtered signal is accomplished in accordance with a computationally less expensive normalized least mean square procedure. The …

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 13, 1992 and granted October 12, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 13, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 13, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
