Abstract From the Canadian patent

Virus/herbicide-resistance genes, processes for the preparation thereof and the use thereof Virus genes, for example coat protein genes which bring, about a reduction in the signs of infection by the corresponding virus or bring about virus resistance can be combined with herbicide-resistance genes for the transformation of plants. A combination of this type facilitates the selection of the transgenic plants. In addition, in practical field cultivation, the vitality of the plants is increased by the virus tolerance, and an unproved plant protection is possible owing to the herbicide-resistance gene.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 24, 1991 and granted October 1, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 24, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 24, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
