Abstract From the Canadian patent

An electrosurgical cutting instrument with bipolar electrodes integrally formed into a pivoting ceramic working head. The ceramic head is pivotable about a pivot point by selectively retracting a substantially rigid wire internal to a working element which is slidably and rotatably received within an introducer and connected to a point on the ceramic head offset from a longitudinal axis. Radial incisions are induced into a prostate gland during a transurethral resectioning of the prostate gland (TURP) by applying an RF energy across the bipolar electrodes from an external power source and drawing the electrodes across prostate gland tissue. Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 22, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 22, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 22, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
