A process for continuous casting of ultra low carbon aluminum killed steel, characterized in that the steel contains 6-20 ppm of calcium, less than 0.01 wt% of sulfur, and less than 30 ppm of oxygen the molten, steel superheat temperature in the tundish is higher than 16°C, and the average flow rate of molten steel is greater than 1.2 m/sec in the straight part of the nozzle. This process prevents rusting and eliminates the necessity of blowing a gas into the immersion nozzle and hence prevents the swelling of cold rolled sheets.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 27, 1991 and granted March 4, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 27, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 27, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
