Abstract From the Canadian patent

A prosthetic implant for implantation into skeletal bone comprising an implantable base member having an internal housing surrounded partially by a porous wall, an anode secured in the internal housing and in electrical contact with the porous wall and a porous means placed in the internal housing for retaining a biocompatible electrolyte. When implanted into bone structure the prosthetic implant generates sufficient current flow which results in invivo formation of calcium phosphate minerals between the implant and the surrounding bone, thereby resulting in im-, proved fixation and stability of the implant.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 22, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 22, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 22, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
