An aqueous hair fixative composition containing from a small amount of lower alkanol to no lower alkanol is provided. The composition contains a water-dispersable polymer which forms a colloidal dispersion in the aqueous composition and a dimethicone copolyol surfactant, in an amount sufficient to cause the aqueous composition to spread out uniformly on the surface of the hair shaft. The composition gives a perception of wetness comparable to that achieved with compositions containing large amounts of lower alkanol.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 21, 1992 and granted March 19, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 21, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 21, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
