Abstract From the Canadian patent

A fire-resistant cable which is suitable for the transmission of high frequency signals in a local area network includes a core which comprises a plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors and a jacket. Each insulated conductor of each pair includes an elongated metallic member and an insulation system. The insulation system which is characterized by a suitably low dissipation factor includes dual layers, an outer one of which includes a flame-retardant plastic material. Also, the insulation system is characterized by a suitably low dielectric constant and by compatibility with a relatively short pair twist scheme. In one embodiment, the insulation system includes an inner layer of …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 15, 1992 and granted April 1, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 15, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 15, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
