Core Orientation Device", A device to enable the determination of the angular orientation of a core sample taken from an inclined borehole includes an indicator (24; 47) mounted upon an elongated body (21; 40) for movement around the axis of the elongated body within a housing (18; 42). The indicator is released by a trigger device (28; 46) to permit it to move from a retracted position into an orientation-indicating position in which the indicator engages one of a multiplicity of apertures (27; 49) in the lower end of the housing and thus indicates the relative orientation of the indicator and the housing at the time when the trigger device was operated.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 24, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 24, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 24, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
