Abstract From the Canadian patent

Abstract of the Disclosure, Control apparatus for detecting and responding to the occurrence of fault current in alternator-fed DC power supplies without the use of fuses. The existence of a fault condition caused by rectifier shorting is detected by providing at least two sets of alternator output windings and comparing like phase currents of different winding sets. In fault conditions the, difference between like phase currents far exceeds that observed during normal operating conditions giving, rise to the detection of a failed rectifier. In response to a detected rectifier failure a Field, Protection Circuit effects a controlled shut down of the alternator field winding energization …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 17, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 17, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 17, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
