Abstract From the Canadian patent

In a motion detector operative on a composite video signal comprising chrominance, signal components as well as a luminance signal component the chrominance signal components are suppressed by a filter that removes only diagonal high frequencies in the spatial-frequency domain. These diagonal high frequencies in the spatial-frequency domain include the chrominance signal components of the composite video signal in accordance with a standard such as the NTSC standard. Motion detection is improved by reason of including more of the spatial high-frequency components.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 5, 1992 and granted June 15, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 5, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 5, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
