Abstract From the Canadian patent

The method consists:, - in dividing up the array of photosensitive cells into two frames of interlaced lines (1...576) of cells, - in coupling each line (1, 2; ...575 576) of, one frame with the counterpart line of the other frame to obtain an ordered sequence of pairs of counterpart cells, - in compounding (2; 3) for each pair the luminance values supplied by each cell - in transmitting the resulting luminance values associated with each pair of cells - in varying the timing of the system in order to both simplify the transmission coder-decoder and improve its performance. Application: videophones.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 27, 1990 and granted October 3, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 27, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 27, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
