An article preferably an insulated food serving unit such as a tray (1) or a tray cover (101) having a top shell (10) and a bottom shell (20) which are physically interlocked with a snap-fit connection (25). A rigid, substantially dimensionally stable foam (17) between the top and bottom shells (10 20) locks the shells, together, seals the snap-fit connection (25) and provides rigidity to the overall article. Reinforcing ribs (19) may be used to decrease flexure at the connection seam and protect the form (11) against impact at the connection seal.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 11, 1990. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 11, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 11, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
