Abstract From the Canadian patent

W. E. 56,491, ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A TFEL edge emitter assembly has a TFEL edge emitter module composed of a substrate and an EL stack supported on the substrate and having a light-emitting front edge, and a covering of solid material overlying the EL stack and attached to the substrate. The solid covering produces a hermetical seal with the substrate which substantially encompasses the EL stack and provide an optically transparent medium having a refractive index between that of the EL stack and air.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 22, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 22, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 22, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
