Abstract From the Canadian patent

In a method of producing optical waveguides (8) in the form of striplines on a substrate (1), two transparent layers (3 and 6) are applied one on top of the other on the substrate (1) and are structured in the form of optical waveguides (8). The material of the two layers (3 and 6) is selected in such a way that the melting point of the material of the second layer (6) is lower than that of the material of the first layer (3) but has a higher refractive index than the first layer (3). After formation of the structure a heating process is, implemented in which the material of the second layer (6) melts and, due to the surface tension, its surface when seen, in cross section, takes on the …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 15, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 15, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 15, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
