Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention relates to a DNA fragment containing a nucleotide sequence that encodes an amino acid sequence of esterase sand esterase asymmetrically hydrolyzing carboxylic acid esters represented by the formula (I);, (wherein R1 is alkyl aralkyl or aryl, R2 and R3 are alkyl, and n is 1 or 2) an esterase encoded by the DNA fragment a recombinant plasmid, containing the DNA fragment a microorganism transformed with the, recombinant plasmid and methods of producing optically active carboxylic acids and their enantiomeric esters.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 13, 1992 and granted December 16, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 13, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 13, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
