Abstract From the Canadian patent

The DC/DC power transformer is an arrangement for direct transformation of high electric powers from one DC voltage level to another DC voltage level without intermediate AC voltage network. The DC voltage is today basically used for transmission of high electric powers at long distances. The DC voltage levels for these transmission are normally high. The DC/DC power transformer allows several DC voltage levels to be used in one and the same DC voltage network. The principle for this arrangement is that the valve windings (43 45) from one or several converter transformers (47) are connected to two valve bridges, which generate opposing cyclically variating magnetic flows in the transformer …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 2, 1990 and granted July 7, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 2, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 2, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
