Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention concerns a compound consisting of 60% to 90% by weight of 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane (F141b) 9% to 33% of 1,1,1,3,3 pentafluorobutane (F365 mfc) and 1% to 7% of methanol. These three compounds form a positive azeotrope (Boiling point=29.1 degrees C at normal pressure). The compound once stabilized, can be used for cleaning and/or drying solid surfaces in particular for defluxing printed circuits and degreasing mechanical parts. These uses are also aims of the invention.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 27, 1992 and granted December 30, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 27, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 27, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
