Abstract From the Canadian patent

In a digital communication system where a received stuff-synchronized TDM signal is demultiplexed into data signals each containing a sequence of frames. Each frame contains a pointer to indicate the start timing of the frame and specify positive, negative or zero destuffing. A pointer is detected from each data signal and compared with a previous pointer of the data signal stored in a memory. From this comparison the type of destuffing to be performed on a frame is determined and in response to it, +1, -1 or 0 is added to the previous pointer to produce a current pointer which is then used to rewrite the previous point. A binary clock count value is generated by a single phase counter and …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 24, 1992 and granted February 25, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 24, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 24, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
