Abstract From the Canadian patent

D# 81,017-F), A process is disclosed for preparing synthetic lubricant base stocks having improved properties. Synthetic lubricant base stocks may be prepared in good yield by oligomerizing linear olefins using certain acidic montmorillonite clay catalysts. When a mixture of poly(isobutylene) and long-chain linear olefin in, which up to about 10 wt.% of the mixture is poly(isobutylene) is, co-reacted in the presence of these catalysts a synthetic, lubricant base stock having a high viscosity and a high viscosity index is prepared.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 22, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 22, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 22, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
