Abstract From the Canadian patent
An afocal optical imaging system in particular a telescopic sight, having an objective (10') and an eyepiece (10"), has an angular magnification (V) which varies transverse to the optical axis (20), preferably decreasing towards the periphery. The object to be magnified can, in this way, be initially relatively easily detected with the zone (34) of lesser magnification. Thereupon, the imaging system can be conveniently positioned in such a way that its zone of stronger magnification (V) precisely locks on the object. (Fig. 1) -9-

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 19, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 19, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 19, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
