Abstract From the Canadian patent

Misconnections between communications circuits in a bidirectional line-switched ring transmission system are eliminated by deterministically squelching in adjacent ring nodes, i.e. loop-back-switching nodes communications, circuits terminated in failed ring nodes in the ring transmission system. The deterministic squelching is realized by provisioning the ring nodes with all active communications circuits including those passing through the node which are terminated in other ring nodes in the bidirectional line-switched ring transmission system. Then, when one or more adjacent ring nodes fail all active communications, circuits terminated in those failed ring nodes are squelched in the …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 7, 1992 and granted March 16, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 7, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 7, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
