When deforming an elongate workpiece (A) as by forging, rolling, or the like, it is necessary to know the exact position of the workpiece along its length with respect to the deforming means. To this end, one end of the workpiece (A) is secured to a carriage (4) in abutting relation with a stop member (8) and the carriage (4) is moved in the direction away from the deforming means (1). The position of the stop member (8) with respect to the deformin g means (1) is continuously detected thus giving an indication of the position of the workpiece (A) with respect to the deforming means (1).

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 18, 1990. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 18, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 18, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
