A hybrid single-phase variable reluctance motor (31) comprises a stator (33) having a plurality of inwardly salient teeth (41A-41D) terminating at a central bore (37). The teeth are arranged in generally diametrically opposed pairs of teeth and are generally evenly spaced around the bore. A phase winding (43) is operatively associated with one pair of the stator teeth. The winding, when energized causes a temporary, magnetization of the stator teeth. A rotor (35) is disposed for rotation in the bore and has outwardly salient teeth (45A 45B) generally diametrically opposed to each other. A permanent magnet (53) is disposed adjacent the bore at the end of one tooth (41D) of a second pair (41C …

Why it's free to use
- Filed March 25, 1992 and granted November 18, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 25, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 25, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
