Each line of a television signal has a sequence of interleaved luminance and chrominance samples according to a given format (Y0U0Y1V0 etc.) which are written into a one line store (1) using a first address sequence and then read out using a second address sequence such that the luminance samples are in reverse order (and likewise the chrominance); however their interleaving conforms to the given format. The second address sequence is used also for writing in the next incoming line, which is then read out using the first sequence the two sequences alternating throughout a field period. Useful in videotelephony and videoconferencing.

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 9, 1990 and granted July 7, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 9, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 9, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
