Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention relates to new low-alloy steel compositions and rotor shafts for electric machines made such steel. High nickel and chromium contents ensure high strength and toughness, while other components, notably silicon and other impurities, are kept low with the result that magnetic properties remain good. One aspect provides a steel with the following proportions by weight:, C 0.15 to 0.3% Si 0.1%, Mn 1%, Ni 3 to 5%, Cr 2%, 3.5% (Mo + W) 0.1 to 1.0%, W being optional V 0.03 to 0.35%; and, the remainder substantially Fe.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 18, 1992 and granted December 9, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 18, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 18, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
