Abstract of the Disclosure, A method of enhancing the compostability of waste products (i.e. products which have been discarded after use) containing one or more synthetic organic polymers is disclosed. Waste products, e.g. a mass of used diapers containing a propylene polymer material are exposed to, high-energy ionizing radiation in an oxidizing atmosphere such as air, whereby the synthetic polymer(s) therein are oxidatively degraded. The waste product containing the radiation-degraded polymer(s) then is exposed to microoganism attack in the presence of moisture and an oxygen-containing gas to produce a useful compost humus.

Why it's free to use
- Filed March 2, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended March 2, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 2, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
