Abstract From the Canadian patent
A cap-sensitive emulsion explosive capable of being used in packaged explosive products. The explosive contains amminium nitrate grills of a bulk density of 0.70 to 1.00 g/cc, with a particle density of 1.25 to 1.40 g/cc. A polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride based emulsifying agent is used as an emulsifying agent. Packaged explosives prepared according to the present invention have improved package stability, and allow for control of the ratio of shock energy to heave energy.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 12, 1992 and granted September 4, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 12, 2012.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 12, 2014.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
