Abstract From the Canadian patent

A field emitter includes an electron emitting structure spaced from an anode structure, with the intervening gap being substantially evacuated. The electron emitting structure includes a first electrically conductive layer spaced by an insulating layer from a second conductive layer, and a generally circular aperture disposed through the layers. The anode structure includes an electrically conductive layer. Electrostatic forces provided from a, potential applied between the first conductive layer and the anode structure, causes an electron beam to be drawn from a cathode provided by a peripheral edge portion of the first conductive layer within the aperture onto an adjacent surface portion …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 7, 1992. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 7, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 7, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
