Abstract From the Canadian patent
A N,N-dinitramide salt is disclosed having the formula MN(NO2)2 where M is a cation selected from the class consisting of a metal ion and a nitrogen-containing ion. The dinitramide salt exhibits high temperature stability high energy density, and an absence of smoke generating halogens rendering it useful as an oxidizer in rocket fuels. The dinitramide salts are meltable and pumpable oxidizers which may be used in start-stop rocket engines instead of other less stable oxidizers.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 14, 1991 and granted June 16, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 14, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 14, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
