Abstract From the Canadian patent

Abstract, This invention relates a nucleic acid target amplification method which operates at a single temperature and makes use of a polymerase in conjunction with an exonuclease that will digest the primer portion of the polymerized strand such that the polymerase will displace the partially digested strand without digestion of the target strand while generating a newly polymerized strand.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 30, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 30, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 30, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
