A prevulcanized tread for installation on a tire casing is provided. The tread includes a sole an upper, tread portion manifesting a predetermined tread design disposed between respective shoulders, and respective skirts. The tread skirts each include a generally planar interior wall, an interior interconnecting portion which couples the interior wall to the sole, an exterior side wall extending downwardly and outwardly from the tread's shoulders and an end portion connecting the interior and exterior walls.
