Conventionally, polyether pendant dimethyl polysiloxane and linear polyether-polysiloxanepolyether block copolymer have been frequently proposed and dominantly used in cosmetic formulations. In this invention, non-hydrolyzing block copolymers comprising a linear, polysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene block as a repeating unit are used as a main component of cosmetic formulations used in skin care products and hair care products.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 27, 1991 and granted May 27, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 27, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 27, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
