Oncogenic forms of Ras protein have been reported to occur in a variety of human cancers including colorectal carcinoma, exocrine pancreatic carcinoma, and myeloid leukemias. Active forms of Ras protein which are complexed with GTP can bind to GTPase activating protein (GAP). This binding is thought to be an important step in the cell transforming activity of Ras. According to the present invention a group of peptides have been discovered which block the binding of Ras to GAP.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 16, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 16, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 16, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
