A.) A process for forming a cobalt conversion coating on a metal substrate, thereby imparting corrosion resistance and paint adhesion properties. The invention was developed as a replacement for the prior art chromic acid process. The process includes the steps of: (a) providing a cobalt conversion solution comprising an aqueous solution having a pH of about 7.0 to 7.2 and containing a soluble cobalt-III hexacoordinated complex, the concentration of the cobalt-III hexacoordinated complex being from about 0.1 mole per gallon of solution to the saturation limit of the cobalt-III hexacoordinated complex; and (b) contacting the substrate with the solution for a sufficient amount of time whereby …

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 25, 1991 and granted July 3, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 25, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 25, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
