Abstract From the Canadian patent

RD-19,701, HIGH-FREQUENCY, HIGH-LEAKAGE-REACTANCE TRANSFORMER, Abstract, A high-frequency high-leakage-reactance, transformer has a section of low-permeability magnetic material disposed between planar primary and secondary windings. The low-permeability section provides a controlled flux path for the leakage flux between the primary and secondary windings. Excessive eddy currents are thus prevented from flowing in the planar windings and high-, efficiency operation is achieved. The high-leakage-reactance transformer can function both as a transformer and an inductor, thereby reducing the size of for example, a, resonant power supply or a discharge lamp ballast.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 17, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 17, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 17, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
